With so many options available, it can be overwhelming to decide what to watch. That’s why we’ve put together a list of some of the best Halloween-themed content on Netflix to help you get started. Whether you’re a horror fan or just looking for something to get you in the Halloween mood, there’s something for everyone on this list. So grab some popcorn, turn off the lights, and get ready to be scared! Here are some of the best things to watch on Netflix during the Halloween season:
Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated
For all the Scooby-Doo girlies. Shoutout to those of us that has the Scooby-Doo bedspread & blanket set. This animated TV show follows the famous gang of teen detectives and their not-so-fearless canine companion on mysterious new adventures. Set in the town of Crystal Cove, a place with a history of eerie supernatural events, the gang attempts to solve creepy mysteries with increasingly outlandish technology, skills, and scenarios making up each villain’s story. With a tongue-in-cheek approach to the classic Scooby-Doo formula, this show is the shit. This show will also inspire the most iconic group costume of all time – those meddling kids!
Malevolent
I recently watched this one for the first time, driven by my love for Florence Pugh. This film follows a brother-sister duo who run a fake paranormal investigation business, but their latest job at a haunted orphanage turns out to be more real than they anticipated. Malevolent is a well-crafted and genuinely scary movie that horror fans won’t want to miss. Perfect movie to watch on Halloween night with all of the lights off 😉
The Strangers
Home invasion is one of the most terrifying sub-genres of horror. In this horror film, a couple staying in a remote vacation home is terrorized by three masked strangers who break in and begin to torment them. With a tense and suspenseful atmosphere, this film will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
Drag Me to Hell
Written & Directed by the great Sam Raimi (the Evil Dead, and the original Spiderman trilogy), this horror-comedy film follows a Christine, young woman who is cursed by a gypsy and must find a way to break the curse before she is dragged to hell. Scream king Justin Long stars as the Christine’s boyfriend. With a mix of scares and laughs, this film is a fun and entertaining ride for horror fans. Nothing screams Halloween movie like being dragged to hell!
Creep & Creep 2
This is probably my favorite entry and the most underrated movies on this list. These found footage horror films follow a videographer who answers a Craigslist ad for a one-day job in a remote mountain town filming a man trying to make a video for his son. As he begins to film his subject, he realizes that something is not quite right. With a slow-burning tension and a chilling performance by the wonderful Mark Duplass, these films are simple in scope but chillingly effective.
Us
People are divided on Jordan Peele’s follow up to the Oscar award winning Get Out, but I loved it. In this horror film, a family is terrorized by a group of doppelgangers who look just like them. With a thought-provoking storyline and a standout performance by Lupita Nyong’o, this movie was scary with a good balance of comic relief.
MA
While I am not sure if this movie is truly good or just something special as it’s in it post release meme era, I think MA is a winner. In this psychological horror film, a lonely woman befriends a group of teenagers and invites them to party in her basement. As the partying gets out of control, the woman’s true intentions are revealed and things get weird. With a standout performance by Octavia Spencer, this film is a chilling exploration of loneliness and revenge. It also stars Juliette Lewis, Diana Silvers, and Allison Janney.
IT Follows
This was my introduction to my favorite scream queen, Maika Monroe. In this horror film, a young woman is pursued by a supernatural entity after a sexual encounter. With a unique premise and a haunting score, this film is a must-see for fans of horror and suspense.
Vivarium
In this sci-fi horror film, a young couple is trapped in a suburban housing development that seems to go on forever. With a surreal and unsettling atmosphere, this film is a thought-provoking exploration of suburban life and the human condition. It stars Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots.
Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities
This is an anthology series that feature a collection of stories from the mind of acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro. With a mix of horror, fantasy, and sci-fi, this series is sure to be a must-see for fans of Del Toro’s unique vision.
Prom Night
If you’re in the mood for a classic slasher flick, check out Prom Night. This reboot of the 1980 film follows Donna Keppel (Brittany Snow) and her friends as they are stalked by a killer from her past on the night of their senior prom. This was a staple for me at middle school sleepovers, so there may be a nostalgia bias here. While the plot may be predictable, it’s still a fun and suspenseful ride.
